Prior to buying the Tsugami TMA8F machine, Zaffiri Precision was sourcing barrels from another manufacturer, and the company wanted to bring that in-house. With the Tsugami machine they could achieve the one-and-done solution they were seeking.
Steven Zaffiri is the founder of Zaffiri Precision, manufacturers’ of aftermarket slides and barrels for Glock. Zaffir Precision employees manufacture pistol barrels on the Tsugami TMA8F.
Zaffiri says the mill-turn capabilities of the TMA8F machine have allowed the company to manufacture parts that would typically take three different operations. “Today, we can do it in one operation, and to start we rock the initial part of the barrel on the main spindle and then transfer it to the sub-spindle where we do all the finishing work on the barrel chamber and housing.”
When Zaffiri was ready to purchase the machine, he explained to Dave Thomas, a manufactures’ sales representative with Trident Southeast, specifically what they were trying to accomplish and the Tsugami America engineers developed a conveyor and part unloading system, allowing the company to run unattended through the night. Zaffiri then decided to pair that with the Rebel 80 bar feeder from Edge Technologies, which also keeps the machine fed throughout the night.
Zaffiri also purchased the Tsugami B0325B-II for manufacturing thread protectors for barrels, guide rods, trigger pins, and a range of other small parts.
“Dave with Trident Southeast has been great to work with. He steers us in the right direction and has us making the parts we need,” Zaffiri notes.
According to Dillon Evans, a CNC machinist with Zaffiri Precision, the company produces Glock 17 guide rods on its B0325B-II and they generally make the entire assembly – making the guide rods as well as the washer from 303 stainless steel. “These are a lot better than the standard guide rods manufactured out of plastic, so we wanted to offer a better-quality product and with the B0325B-II machine we can do that effectively, rapidly, and consistently.”
Zaffiri notes the Tsugami machines have been incredibly reliable but when it does need service or maintenance, they’ve gotten parts in a day or two – keeping the machine up and running as much as possible.
