The premier German defense/military ammo manufacturing factory recently added two more high speed inspection machines from General Inspection, LLC for small caliber ammunition. The inspection machines measure and detect visual defects on 9mm cases at rates of 300 per minute. These two inspection machines are equipped with Gi’s robust vibratory feeder systems. The addition of the two Gi-720’s gives the ammo maker a total of five Gi inspection high speed inspection machines; three Gi-6v’s and two Gi-720’s.

The ammunition manufacturer chose Gi-720’s which incorporate multiple lasers and cameras to provide complete measurement and   visual defect detection on all surfaces. The inspection stations include:

  • Primer Vision Station
  • Mouth Vision Station
  • 3D Primer Depth Station
  • 3D Primer Internal Diameter Station
  • Multi-View Gauging and Visual Inspection Station
  • SD-Vision Station
  • Internal-View Inspection Station

Primer Vision Station for cases inspects the quality of the head stamp, detects missing and defective flash holes, burrs in the flash hole and measures primer pocket concentricity. The Mouth Vision Station measures wall thickness, concentricity, roundness, and detects splits, cracks, and burrs.

The 3D primer depth station is dedicated to measuring the depth of the primer pocket whilst the 3D primer pocket diameter station measures the primer pocket inner diameter at a specified internal depth. These stations use multiple lasers and cameras for unparalleled accuracy and repeatability.

The Multi-View Gauging and Visual Inspection Station uses 8 cameras with sequenced front and back lighting for 100% measurement to print specifications of all OD characteristics as well as 360° visual defect detection. Visual defect detection exceeds Mil-Std-636 standards.  Visual defects include folds, dents, wrinkles, perforations, and splits. Other visual defects like stains, lacquer smear, annealing location, color, and draw scratches are detected with the SD-Vision Station.

An Internal-View station was added to detect visual defects that can occur on the inner diameter wall. This station can inspect the entire ID surface as the cases pass by without pause or the need to rotate.
